HHRD’s Emergency Relief & Disaster Management (ERDM) Program has been responding to ongoing flooding across Afghanistan, including in Logar Province, where heavy rainfall and flash floods have damaged homes, roads, and farmland, displacing thousands of families and leaving them in urgent need of assistance.
According to OCHA’s Afghanistan Natural Disasters Dashboard, more than 97,000 people have been affected by floods and other natural disasters nationwide so far in 2026, with more than 12,000 homes damaged or destroyed and 97 lives lost. HHRD’s ERDM teams have been mobilizing throughout the disaster season to deliver essential supplies to affected families, including those in Logar Province.
HHRD’s Distribution in Logar Province
In Logar Province, HHRD carried out a structured distribution designed to meet immediate household needs. According to HHRD field reports, families received cooking oil, blankets, and staple food items such as rice or flour.
Each household also received a clean water container, distributed to ensure safe storage of water collected locally. This measure supports hygiene and helps prevent contamination of drinking water in areas where local water sources have been compromised.
HHRD’s Community-Based Delivery Model
Local volunteers assisted HHRD in organizing families and managing supply flow, ensuring that vulnerable groups were prioritized. A partnership with local authorities provided a controlled distribution site for community members, families, and children, allowing for orderly distribution and verification of recipients.
HHRD’s Ongoing Commitment to Resilience
HHRD continues to strengthen resilience in flood-affected areas by combining logistical planning with community participation. HHRD says it will continue monitoring conditions in Logar and other affected provinces as recovery needs evolve.
