IslamiCity on a Mission to Preserve Gaza’s Digital Records
As the war in Gaza intensifies, Palestinian voices are increasingly being silenced online. According to the Digital Rights Index 2024, published by Sada Social, social media platforms are systematically removing Palestinian content at a time when documentation is more critical than ever.

Violations of Palestinian Digital Content
The Digital Rights Index 2024 documents more than 25,000 violations of Palestinian digital content, including post removals, shadowbanning, and account suspensions. Violations were concentrated on Instagram (31%), TikTok (27%), Facebook (24%), and X (12%). At the same time, incitement against Palestinians continues largely unchecked across platforms like Telegram (41%), X (35%), and Meta platforms (15%).
A public survey by Sada Social confirms the extent of suppression: 68.4% of Palestinian users report restrictions on Facebook, 65.8% on Instagram, 36.2% on TikTok, and 14.5% on X. These figures underscore why preservation efforts like IslamiCity’s are essential.
