In a historic moment on Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend, over 400,000 protesters gathered in Washington, DC. Marking 100 days of genocidal bombing by the Israeli regime. The protest, which took place on Saturday, January 13th, stood as the largest of its kind. In the United States, drawing attention from major media outlets such as The Washington Post, USA Today, MSNBC, the Guardian, Al-Jazeera, and social media platforms.
Led by the American Muslim Taskforce for Palestine, co-founded by American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), and in collaboration with the ANSWER coalition. The march saw the participation of more than 350 endorsing organizations. This coalition brought together voices from various religious, racial, gender, ethnic, and professional backgrounds, exemplifying a united front for the cause of a free Palestine.

Speakers at the event included notable figures such as Dr Cornel West, Dr Jill Stein, Imam Omar Suleiman, Medea Benjamin, Alana Hadid, Nihad Awad, and Dr Osama Abu Irshaid. They emphasized the complicity of US officials in Israel’s bombing and starvation of Gaza. The collective demands voiced during the protest included a permanent ceasefire, an end to the blockade of Gaza, the return of Palestinian prisoners, and an end to US aid to Israel.
Dr. Osama Abu-Irshaid, Executive Director of AMP and AJP-Action, described the protest as “truly a historic moment for the movement for Palestinian rights.” He highlighted the visible shift in awareness and moral rectitude among a rising generation of Americans, drawing parallels between the current situation and the Nakba of 1948. Dr. Abuirshaid stressed that this multi-racial and multi-generational coalition would hold leaders accountable for their positions on Palestinian rights.
The Middle East Eye reported that 120 other cities worldwide hosted protests for Palestinian rights and a ceasefire on this global day of action, spanning 45 countries. Dr. Jill Stein, an activist present at the march, remarked, “Polls show we are not alone. We are, in fact, an unstoppable majority and an unstoppable force for peace, justice, and for an end to genocide now.”

Dr Cornel West, echoing the sentiments of the crowd, emphasized the pursuit of equality. “We want equality,” he declared at the rally repeating it three times!
