RISE’s Muslim Women’s Leadership Conference: A Love Letter of Self-Love and Empowerment for Reviving Sisterhood Leadership Conference Attendees
A Quote from Sr. Malika Dahir, Executive Director of Reviving Sisterhood:
RISE’s annual Muslim Women’s Leadership Conference aims to bring together Muslim women leaders making a positive impact in their communities. The conference showcases their work and provides opportunities to build social networks and learn steps for change. The goal is to inspire women to use their strengths to affect social issues.
In recognition of the difficulties faced by Muslim women in recent years, the Reviving Sisterhood Leadership Conference took a slightly different approach. With many sisters carrying the burdens of loss, grief, and trauma due to Covid, police brutality, earthquakes, floods, famines, and gendered islamophobia, the conference was a love letter from the RISE sisterhood to our sisters. It was an invitation to pause, go beyond self-care, and practice self-love to liberate ourselves from self-doubt, negative self-talk, and the opinions and judgment of others.
The conference offered incredible workshops that helped sisters curate a toolkit on how to center Allah, navigate through grief, heal from trauma, and set boundaries. Attendees also learned how their passions intersect with the world’s needs and how to turn their power into income.
The Reviving Sisterhood Leadership Conference provided a place where Muslim women’s voices, narratives, and power are celebrated. It’s essential to have conferences and other spaces where Muslim women can take space and come together to support each other.
RISE is always looking for sisters who are experts in their field and are willing to conduct a workshop, sit on a panel, or give the keynote address. The conference is also volunteer-driven, and they are always recruiting sisters and bringing the conference to life. Through the Reviving Sisterhood Leadership Conference and other initiatives, RISE is creating a supportive community of Muslim women leaders making a positive impact in their communities and beyond.
