Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD) in Pakistan is expanding its agriculture initiatives across five districts, supporting small-scale farmers with sustainable farming practices, agricultural inputs, and technical training.
According to HHRD Pakistan’s report covering the first half of 2026, its Agriculture Project reached 235 farmers in Hattian, Abbottabad, Bannu, Attock, and Murree. The initiative is part of HHRD’s broader Skills Development & Livelihood Program (SDLP) and focuses on strengthening agricultural livelihoods while helping farmers adapt to changing climate conditions.
The program provides farmers with seeds, fertilizer, fencing, agricultural tools, harvesting kits, and technical guidance aimed at improving crop production and household income.
HHRD Agriculture Project Reaches Five Districts
During the reporting period, HHRD expanded its agriculture support across five districts of Pakistan, including mountainous and semi-urban areas. Of the 235 farmers reached, 66 were newly affiliated with the program.
The initiative supports farmers who depend on small plots of land and seasonal crops for their livelihoods. By providing agricultural inputs alongside technical assistance, HHRD aims to help farmers improve productivity and adopt more sustainable farming methods.
Model Vegetable Gardens and Orchards
A key component of HHRD’s Agriculture Project is the development of model vegetable gardens, including gardens using tunnel farming techniques. These gardens allow farmers to grow crops on limited land while providing protection from challenging weather conditions and extending growing seasons.
HHRD also supported:
- One lemon orchard
- Six date orchards
Farmers received essential agricultural supplies, including seeds, fertilizer, fencing materials, harvesting kits, and toolkits.
The supported gardens produced a range of vegetables, including turnips, spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, bitter gourds, strawberries, and garlic. Wheat, maize, and rice also remained important crops for local food production.
More than 150 model vegetable gardens have been established across Bannu, Attock, Abbottabad, and Kohsar, according to the HHRD report.
HHRD Provides Farmer Training and Technical Support
Alongside material assistance, HHRD provided farmers with technical guidance during the first half of 2026.
The organization reported conducting:
- 21 farmer meetings focused on technical guidance, field support, and monitoring
- 9 farmer training sessions covering modern farming techniques, crop management, and sustainable agriculture practices
The training and meetings give farmers opportunities to receive guidance, discuss agricultural challenges, and learn about approaches that can improve crop management and productivity.
Supporting Sustainable Agricultural Livelihoods
Through its Agriculture Project, HHRD is combining agricultural inputs, training, and field support to strengthen the livelihoods of small-scale farmers in Pakistan.
The program’s expansion across five districts reflects HHRD’s broader focus on livelihood development and climate adaptation in rural communities.
