Zakat Foundation of America Opens New Service Center

The Zakat Foundation of America has opened a Social Services Center in Harvey, Illinois, to provide essential items to migrant refugees and low-income residents on the South side of Chicago and South Suburbs. Established in 2001, the humanitarian organization aims to relieve starvation, provide access to education, and clean water, help victims of disaster and violent conflict, care for orphans, lift people out of poverty, and alleviate the needs of vulnerable families and children.
Zakat Foundation of America has 10 offices in the United States and 10 international offices to respond to emergencies and humanitarian aid. The centre will provide vital assistance to uplift and empower the Harvey community and its neighbours. The organization’s work is made possible by generous donations and has distributed five million pounds of food in 200 communities across the United States during COVID-19.

Zakat Foundation of America Robust Expansion and Community Outreach
The organization opened the Harvey location because the South Suburbs have always been part of its service area, and many refugee families reside in the community. Demir, CEO and Founder of Zakat Foundation of America, decided to have a social services centre there instead of having them come to the organization’s headquarters in Bridgeview.
For Christmas, the organization provided new clothes, shoes, personal items, as well as toys for the children. It also responded to the cold weather during the winter months by providing hats, gloves, and scarves for people who visited the centre. The organization will continue to provide food items to the people in need.
Demir expressed his happiness that the Zakat Foundation of America can bring comfort to the people of the South Suburbs and their families. The organization is accepting donations and looking for volunteers. Donations can be made at 7421 W. 100th in Bridgeview, Illinois, or via email.
